MEET OUR DIRECTOR
Tavares Taylor – Executive Director
The source of passion for Tavares Taylor Charities, Inc. is derived from its founder, Tavares A. Taylor.
For Mr. Taylor, it has always and will always be about service to the collective. At a young age, Mr. Taylor learned this principle first hand when his grandmother, Ernesther Johnson, took him to a political rally of then, Candidate L. Douglas Wilder. During this rally, Candidate Wilder spoke to the residents of the Church Hill section of Richmond, VA about the importance of serving regardless of one’s role or title. His speech was very reminiscent of the sermon, “The Drum Major Instinct,” by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with both inspiring the masses within the community to be first in love, first in moral excellence and first in generosity.
The foundation of service had already been laid, even before Mr. Taylor became an Airman in the United States Air Force and adopted their core values of Integrity first, Service before self and Excellence in all we do. Whether it was serving the citizens of Florida with aid during Hurricanes Ivan, Charlie and Frances, or overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Mr. Taylor found a way to make the lives of others better.
Today, Mr. Taylor incorporates his love for service with his love of technology. For over 10 years, Mr. Taylor has been an Information Technology and Information Security professional, serving multiple companies within the private industry, the Department of Defense, each of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and even at the White House under the administration of Former President Herbert Walker Bush.
Mr. Taylor, looks forward to engaging with and extends a welcome hand to businesses, government partners and other foundations and community leaders in an effort to build and improve the literacy rates, combat poverty and hunger and bridge the digital divide to improve the quality of life for single parent families and youth in this area and around the world.
